BYD ATTO 2: Affordable EV SUV Brings a Fresh Option to Europe

Published Date: January 11, 2025 - 5:50 pm. Modified: January 11, 2025 © by Jan Glovac

The BYD ATTO 2 is the newest addition to BYD’s European lineup—a compact electric SUV built for city life. Officially unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show, it aims to combine practicality, style, and affordability. BYD positions the ATTO 2 between their Dolphin hatchback and the larger ATTO 3 SUV, creating a balanced choice for urban drivers looking for a budget-friendly SUV.

The size of the ATTO 2 makes it a perfect fit for narrow European streets. It measures 4,310mm in length, 1,830mm in width, and 1,675mm in height. Compared to the ATTO 3, it’s smaller yet has a 2,620mm wheelbase, ensuring an optimized cabin space while providing short overhangs. These proportions improve approach and departure angles, reinforcing its practical yet sporty identity.

In terms of design, the ATTO 2 offers modern aesthetics. The front carries sleek LED headlights complemented by daytime-running lights. The sharp bumper lines and vertical air curtains not only add visual flair but also improve aerodynamic efficiency. Bold body lines along the side and a visually “floating” roof add a contemporary touch. At the back, the distinctive light bar merges seamlessly with the ‘Chinese knot’ tail-lights, hinting at cultural inspiration while delivering a dynamic finish.

Customers can choose from four colors: Climbing Grey comes as standard, while Hiking Green, Skiing White, and Cosmos Black are optional. The alloy wheels, with their striking design, further highlight the car’s energy and vibrancy.

Inside, the ATTO 2 stands out with its premium feel despite its affordability. Soft-touch materials dominate key touchpoints, while simple yet sharp lines define the cabin’s layout. The panoramic glass roof allows natural light to flood the interior, creating a bright and open environment. The flat floor design—enabled by BYD’s e-Platform 3.0—enhances space in the rear, making it family-friendly.

The center console is highly functional, equipped with cup holders, an armrest storage box, and intuitive controls. The drive selector, shaped like a diamond, adds a touch of elegance. Hard keys for essential functions and rotary controls for volume and drive modes ensure straightforward usability.

When it comes to cargo, the SUV offers 400 liters of boot space, expanding to an impressive 1,340 liters when the rear seats are folded. This is perfect for urbanites who need practicality but still value versatility.

Underpinning the ATTO 2 is BYD’s cutting-edge Blade Battery technology paired with Cell-to-Body (CTB) integration. The battery is a structural part of the chassis, enhancing body rigidity while optimizing space usage. This innovative approach ensures safety, durability, and high energy density. The Blade Battery uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, avoiding cobalt or nickel, making it safer and more environmentally responsible. LFP batteries also excel in longevity, withstanding frequent charge-discharge cycles with minimal capacity loss.

Customers can initially choose a 45.1 kWh Blade Battery with a WLTP-rated range of 312 kilometers. Power comes from a front-mounted motor producing 130 kW. In the near future, BYD plans to introduce a model with a larger battery, offering an even more extended range for long-distance drivers.

BYD’s deep expertise in electric vehicle technology is evident in every element of the ATTO 2. From its stylish and practical design to the advanced battery integration, this SUV sets itself apart as an accessible option for those transitioning to electric mobility in Europe. Stay tuned for more details on pricing and equipment as the car hits European roads this February.
