Hyundai recently introduced the Creta Electric, an all-electric version of its highly popular compact SUV, tailor-made for the Indian market. This release marks another milestone for Hyundai, expanding its zero-emission portfolio and addressing the growing demand for electric vehicles in the region.

Modern Exterior: A Fresh Take on the Creta

The Hyundai Creta Electric features subtle yet distinct design changes that set it apart from its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart:

  • Blocked Grille with Pixelated Pattern: A fully closed grille adds an aerodynamic advantage, with a futuristic pixel design giving the vehicle a high-tech appeal.
  • Redesigned Bumpers: Active aero flaps in the front lower intake improve airflow, while the rear bumper incorporates a similar pixelated pattern above the aluminum-style skid plate.
  • Unique Wheel Design: The EV rides on lightweight, 17-inch aero wheels that enhance efficiency.
  • New Color Options: A striking Ocean Blue metallic finish is among the new shades available.

From the side, the Creta Electric retains its original silhouette, showing the continuity between the ICE and EV models while offering optimized performance for customers seeking emissions-free driving.

Impressive Performance

Hyundai revealed that the Creta Electric sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds, making it quicker than the sportier ICE-powered Creta N Line. The EV is powered by a likely single-motor setup driving the front axle, though Hyundai has not yet disclosed specific power output details.

The electric SUV delivers two range options depending on the chosen battery:

Battery CapacityRange
42 kWh390 km (242 miles)
51.4 kWh473 km (294 miles)

The electric Creta also supports fast charging. Using a DC fast charger, the battery can go from 10% to 80% in just 58 minutes. With an 11 kW AC wallbox, a complete charge (10-100%) takes approximately 4 hours.

Adding convenience, the Creta Electric includes a small frunk (front trunk) under the hood, providing extra storage space for items like charging cables. The charging port itself is smartly hidden behind the Hyundai emblem on the front bumper.

Enhanced Interior with Cutting-Edge Tech

Inside, the Creta Electric takes inspiration from Hyundai’s premium EV lineup. Key interior updates include:

  • Dual 10.25-Inch Displays: The car comes equipped with two side-by-side screens offering new EV-specific graphics, granting a futuristic yet practical interface.
  • New Steering and Gear Selector: The steering wheel design and gear selector draw influence from Hyundai’s flagship Ioniq 5 electric car.
  • Three Driving Modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport driving modes can be toggled easily via a control knob, offering flexibility for different driving conditions.
  • Vehicle-to-Load Functionality (V2L): A plug under the rear bench allows users to charge electronic devices directly from the car’s battery system.

Comfort and practicality remain focal points within the cabin, providing the versatility demanded by urban and suburban families.

Hyundai is directly targeting strong rivals like the Suzuki eVitara, Mahindra Be 6, and the soon-to-launch Tata Curvv EV. Each of these competitors presents dedicated EV platforms positioned within India’s aggressively growing electric SUV market.

Hyundai’s strategic alignment with state-of-the-art technology and extensive regional presence gives the Creta Electric an edge, especially against vehicles with limited accessibility or lower brand recognition.

Ready to Debut

The official unveiling of the Hyundai Creta Electric is scheduled for January 17 during the Bharat Mobility Show in India. Hyundai has yet to confirm whether the EV will launch in global markets. Given the Creta nameplate’s international popularity, expanding its electric variant outside India could help Hyundai further solidify its footprint in the EV space.
