The BMW iX3: European Launch First, Global Availability in 2026

Published Date: February 10, 2025 - 3:27 pm. Modified: February 10, 2025 © by Wheel Front Team

BMW’s next-generation iX3 entered pre-production in November 2024, with initial test vehicles rolling off the assembly line. However, the company won’t begin full-scale production of customer models until late 2025. When that happens, the iX3 will go on sale exclusively in Europe before reaching other markets in 2026.

A recent insider report suggests that production for regions outside Europe—specifically North America and Asia—will commence in March 2026. The first batch of iX3s will be manufactured at BMW’s new facility in Debrecen, Hungary. However, the San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico will also begin producing the iX3 in 2027. This move aligns with BMW’s strategy to expand electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing worldwide.

Model Variants and Performance

The second-generation iX3 will debut as the 50 xDrive variant, specifically for the European market. BMW also plans to introduce the 40 and 40 xDrive models, appealing to those looking for more affordable options. Additionally, a high-performance M60 xDrive model will offer increased power and sportier driving dynamics.

Rumors suggest that BMW’s M division could develop a high-performance M model under the “ZA5” codename later in the vehicle’s lifecycle. This performance-oriented version would be the SUV counterpart to the upcoming electric M3 sedan (“ZA0”).

For exterior color options, the BMW iX3 lineup will feature a diverse range of shades, including Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Space Silver, Polarized Grey, Brooklyn Grey, Ocean Wave Blue, Smokey Green, and Fire/Vegas Red.

The Future of BMW’s Electric Lineup

Beyond the iX3, BMW is exploring additional electric models in this segment. Reports suggest the company may introduce an i3 Touring wagon (“NA1”) and an iX4 SUV (“NA7”). Both models could receive performance-focused M versions, labeled “ZA1” for the i3 Touring and “ZA7” for the iX4.

Meanwhile, production of the current iX3 (G08), built in Shenyang, China, will soon come to an end. BMW has stopped allowing customers to configure new orders, signaling its impending discontinuation. However, demand for the outgoing iX3 remains strong in Europe, with a backlog of orders still being fulfilled.
