Li Auto unveiled its first pure electric model this week – a feature-packed minivan priced at over $77,000. Called the Mega, the 7-seater aims to cater to China’s growing appetite for multi-purpose EVs.
The Mega’s unique design combines the practicality of a minivan with the luxury of a high-end sedan. Li Auto calls it a “new energy family flagship vehicle.”
Power comes from dual motors churning out 400kW, rocketing the 2.7-ton vehicle to 60mph in just 5.5 seconds. Range tops out at a lengthy 441 miles thanks to a mammoth 102kWh battery pack. Li Auto partnered with CATL on the cells, enabling lightning fast 500km charging in only 12 minutes.
On the outside, a low drag coefficient of 0.215 slices through the air. Exceptional aerodynamics and a raked rear profile give the Mega its distinctive minivan-coupe silhouette.
Open the electronically powered doors and a welcoming interior awaits. Reclining captain’s chairs with integrated leg rests and fold-flat seats provide abundant room for seven. Further enhancing comfort is a standard air suspension system and continuous damping control.
Occupants stay entertained courtesy of a drop-down movie screen and high-end sound system. The onboard AI assistant offers amenities like travel guidance, education for kids and even a mobile kitchen – the top spec Mega ships with an integrated fridge.
Advanced driver assistance tech doesn’t get overlooked either. Self-driving hardware like lidar sensors allow for automated parking and emergency braking. Curved displays with haptic feedback pair with a Qualcomm processor to deliver real-time trip data.
Deliveries commence in April across over 100 stores in China. For well-heeled families seeking both space and speed, the Mega EV checks all the boxes. Early demand looks robust – Li Auto secured over 10,000 reservations shortly after unveiling the minivan last November.
The company predicts full year sales will double to 800,000 vehicles, with the Mega leading the charge. It already stands as Li Auto’s most expensive model ever, wearing a $77,782 price tag.
