The 2026 BMW iX3 has been spotted in Munich, providing a fresh look at its exterior design. While the prototype remains heavily camouflaged, a key detail has been revealed – its new brake light design. The latest spy shots showcase a thin light strip positioned just below the main taillights. This design is reminiscent of the Vision Neue Klasse X Concept, hinting at BMW’s future EV styling direction. Additionally, the SUV features a required third brake light integrated into the upper section of the rear window.

Production Timeline and Global Availability
BMW officially started producing the next-generation iX3 in November 2024, with the first prototypes rolling off the assembly line. However, customer production won’t begin until late 2025. The model will launch first in Europe, while buyers in North America and Asia will have to wait until March 2026 when series production expands globally.
The electric SUV will roll out from BMW’s new Debrecen plant in Hungary. This facility is dedicated to producing vehicles based on the Neue Klasse platform, signifying a major shift in BMW’s electric mobility strategy.

BMW iX3 Variants and Color Options
At launch, the 2026 BMW iX3 will debut in a single variant: the 50 xDrive. Other versions, including the 40, 40 xDrive, and the sportier M60 xDrive, will follow later.
BMW will offer a broad selection of colors for the new SUV. Initial options include:
- Alpine White
- Black Sapphire
- Space Silver
- Polarized Grey
- Brooklyn Grey
- Ocean Wave Blue
- Smokey Green
- Fire/Vegas Red
More color choices may be added as production progresses.
iDrive X and Interior Innovations
Inside, the new-generation iX3 will introduce BMW’s iDrive X, but notably without the traditional rotary controller. A Panoramic Display dominates the dashboard, and there’s a possibility of an additional screen for the front passenger.
The steering wheel design is completely new, inspired by recent BMW concept vehicle interiors.

Advanced Sixth-Generation Battery Technology
One of the most significant updates in the 2026 iX3 is its Gen6 battery technology, featuring new round cells that provide multiple improvements over current prismatic cells:
- 20% higher energy density
- 30% faster charging times
- 30% more range
With these advancements, BMW estimates a WLTP range of up to 800 km (nearly 500 miles) for the new iX3. Given its aerodynamic efficiency, the upcoming i3 sedan (also based on Neue Klasse) is expected to surpass this range.
BMW has also confirmed that the Neue Klasse lineup will feature bidirectional charging, allowing vehicles to return electricity to the grid or power external devices.
The full unveiling of the 2026 BMW iX3 is expected by fall 2025. In the coming months, further details regarding performance, interior features, and driving experience will likely emerge as BMW continues refining its next-gen electric SUV.
