Volvo is gearing up for an exciting year ahead. After achieving record sales of 763,000 vehicles in 2024, a 7.7% increase from the previous year, the automaker has announced plans to introduce five new or updated models in 2025.
Among these, the much-anticipated EX30 Cross Country will make its debut on February 10, 2025. This rugged all-electric subcompact crossover is designed for adventure and off-road capability. Volvo is also preparing to launch the ES90, a sleek midsize electric sedan that was teased last year and will share its architecture with the EX90 SUV.
A new long-range plug-in hybrid is also expected, though it may be exclusive to the Chinese market. The remaining two models remain a mystery, but speculation suggests they could be updates of existing models, possibly the S60 sedan and XC60 crossover. The S60 is set to exit the U.S. market after 2025, making its replacement an interesting possibility.

Looking beyond 2025, Volvo is readying an entirely new generation of EVs built on the SPA3 platform, expected to roll out in 2026. The first of these will be the EX60, an all-electric compact SUV that has already been spotted testing in prototype form. Other models built on SPA3 could include an ES60 electric sedan and a potential EV60 station wagon, expanding Volvo’s electric lineup.
Currently, Volvo relies on the SPA2 platform, which underpins models like the EX90 and upcoming ES90. The previous SPA platform, originally designed for gasoline and plug-in hybrid vehicles, debuted nearly a decade ago in the XC90. While Volvo originally planned to become an all-electric brand by 2030, it has since shifted gears, continuing to invest in plug-in hybrid models with extended electric range.
Volvo intends to migrate all its vehicles to the SPA3 platform eventually, transitioning to a more advanced and efficient EV architecture. This shift will allow Volvo to maintain momentum in the increasingly competitive electric vehicle market.
Volvo has seen continuous growth in the EV sector, with electric vehicles making up 23% of its record-breaking 2024 sales. When factoring in plug-in hybrids, nearly 46% of Volvo’s total deliveries were electrified last year.
With more electric and hybrid options on the horizon, Volvo is aiming to solidify its position as a leader in the luxury EV space. The addition of the EX30 Cross Country, ES90, and upcoming SPA3-based vehicles will ensure the automaker remains at the forefront of innovation in the industry.
