Redesigned Audi A7 Expected in 2025 with Enhanced Sedan and Wagon Lineup

Published Date: December 18, 2024 - 5:05 pm. Modified: December 18, 2024 © by Jan Glovac

Audi has been busy refining its lineup, and the revamped Audi A7 range is poised to make a grand debut in early 2025. This reimagined offering will include both sedan and wagon body styles, highlighting Audi’s strategy of bolstering versatility while transitioning to electrified powertrains.

The Audi A7 Avant: A Fresh Take on the Wagon

Recent spy shots reveal the upcoming Audi A7 Avant, demonstrating a design shift that promises increased boldness and refinement. This new wagon directly replaces the outgoing A6 Avant as part of Audi’s updated family. Notable refinements include a sportier exterior, featuring:

  • A large, assertive front grille.
  • Wide rear hips, adding a muscular stance and housing integrated side vents.
  • A return to visible exhaust tips in base models, though limited to one side of the rear fascia.

Internally, Audi appears to be testing electrified options, as evidenced by warning labels on the prototype models. These likely include gasoline and plug-in hybrid powertrains designed to cater to evolving market demands.

Audi’s New Platform Strategy

As internal combustion models gradually phase out, Audi is transitioning to its PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) platform for the redesigned A7. This platform aligns with the automaker’s broader goal of ceasing new ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles in most markets by the end of the decade. Audi is aiming for top-tier efficiency and performance while bridging the gap between traditional engines and fully electric innovations.

Key Changes in Audi’s Model Lineup

The freshly revamped A7 lineup is steeped in strategic changes. Audi’s decision to retire the A6 nameplate for combustion models reflects its focus on distinguishing vehicles based on powertrains. Moving forward:

  • Even-numbered names, like the A6, will denote fully electric series (e.g., A6 E-Tron).
  • Odd-numbered names, like the A7, will continue to signify ICE-powered and hybrid vehicles.

This naming shift underscores a broader plan to cleanly segment gasoline-driven cars from battery-powered counterparts.

What’s Next for the Audi A7?

Though Audi hasn’t shared concrete details, enthusiasts can expect both sportback and wagon variants to maximize the model’s appeal. There’s speculation that the A7 sedan will ship to the U.S. by 2026, potentially alongside a rugged Allroad model and a high-performance RS 7 Avant.

Audi remains committed to delivering cutting-edge design and technology, ensuring that the redesigned A7 family preserves its legacy as a flagship of sophistication and performance. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting release.
