The MINI Countryman has always been the brand’s most likely candidate to get mud on its fenders. Now the Untamed Edition, making its European premiere at the 2026 Athens Auto Show, is putting real engineering behind that reputation instead of just slapping on some body cladding and calling it a day.
The numbers are modest but honest. A 15-millimeter suspension lift yields up to 19 mm of additional ground clearance, depending on the configuration. MINI recalibrated the ABS, stability control, and steering to suit the new ride height.
Pirelli developed a specific Scorpion All Terrain Plus tire for the car, mounted on unique 19-inch alloys. In North America those tires come standard. In Europe they’re optional, which tells you everything about how each market actually uses these things.
Approach and breakover angles improve with the revised suspension geometry. Underbody protection, textured films over the wheel arches and hood bulge, redesigned side sills, and a new rear diffuser round out the structural changes. This is more than a sticker package, though it stops well short of a Wrangler Rubicon competitor.

The color palette leans into the adventure branding with names like Hideaway Grey, Nomad Blue, and Frozen Nomad Blue. That last one matters because it’s the first matte finish MINI has offered for series production. Nanuq White and Midnight Black are also available for buyers who prefer their crossovers without the expedition cosplay.
Inside, the cabin gets Vescin Nightshade Blue sport seats with knitted sections MINI says are inspired by rock formations. The dashboard and door panels wear a knitted Millennial Melange surface. Elastic retaining straps in the center console storage box mimic outdoor gear. It’s a lot of thematic commitment, but at least it’s consistent.
Powertrain options span the entire Countryman lineup. The C, S ALL4, and even the D diesel are available alongside the electric Countryman E and SE ALL4. The all-wheel-drive versions are the obvious picks for anyone who plans to actually leave tarmac.
That MINI offers the Untamed with front-wheel drive at all suggests the company expects most buyers to treat the upgrades as aesthetic rather than functional. That’s probably accurate.
MINI also partnered with Italian rooftop tent specialist AUTOHOME for an accessory tent that mounts to the roof and opens in seconds. A camping collection developed with HELINOX includes folding chairs and tables. The lifestyle accessories market for vehicles like this prints money, and MINI would be foolish to ignore it.
Production begins in November at BMW Group Plant Leipzig, with European sales scheduled for early 2027. The Athens show, running through October 11, gives the public its first look at the car in person.
The timing is deliberate. The Untamed Edition already spawned a specialized version for the 2026 Rebelle Rally, the grueling off-road navigation event in the American desert that got underway the same week as the Athens show. Sending a MINI instead of a BMW raises the stakes and the marketing profile at the same time.
What the Countryman Untamed really represents is MINI testing how far it can stretch a single nameplate. The brand’s largest model now covers urban commuters, electric converts, and weekend trail seekers under one roof. Whether the dirt crowd actually buys in or whether this stays a lifestyle play dressed in matte blue paint is a question Leipzig will start answering come November.
