Renault to Revolutionize SUV Designs with Sleeker EV Models

Published Date: December 11, 2024 - 10:33 pm. Modified: December 12, 2024 © by Wheel Front Team

Renault is gearing up to break away from the conventional SUV mold with a lineup of sleeker, sportier electric vehicles (EVs) that the automaker will introduce starting in 2028. The company aims to reshape its design language significantly through the vision of Gilles Vidal, Renault’s head of design.

Vidal reveals that future Renault models will take cues from the striking Embleme concept—a low-slung crossover renowned for its athletic stance and innovative appearance. This design concept reflects Renault’s commitment to modern aesthetics and functionality.

The Embleme represents a shift from the retro design theme embodied by Renault’s popular 4, 5, and Twingo models. While these retro-inspired models will remain part of the lineup, Renault’s design future focuses on futuristic silhouettes that prioritize aerodynamics and efficiency.

According to Vidal, the company intends to introduce designs with generous curves and refined styles. This approach aims to align with evolving consumer preferences, especially as traditional SUVs begin to face backlash in cities like Paris due to their larger size and emissions.

Renault acknowledges the challenges posed by anti-SUV sentiment, a factor particularly strong in urban areas. The design team is working on appealing shapes that continue to offer the practicality and driving range important for EVs.

Amid this shift, Vidal sparks interest in wagons, suggesting they might influence future models. These cars, noted for their sleek design and ample storage, hold potential as they meet both aesthetic and utilitarian needs—a balance crucial for upcoming EVs by Renault.

The strategy does not spell the end for Renault’s adored retro models. Vidal envisions the 4, 5, and Twingo evolving gradually, much like Fiat’s iconic 500. This thoughtful approach ensures they remain in the spotlight while accommodating new design philosophies.

In essence, Renault’s forthcoming models will harmonize sleek style and purpose without entirely dismissing the charm of nostalgia. With change on the horizon, Renault sets a course to redefine urban mobility with models that appeal to modern sensibilities and environmental awareness. Through innovation and design prowess, Renault is poised to lead a new chapter in automotive evolution, combining aesthetics with ecological responsibility.
