Honda has captured the imagination of automotive enthusiasts with its Sports EV Concept, a lightweight electric vehicle designed to deliver a thrilling driving experience. Built under the theme of “A new EV sports experience where people and cars become one,” this concept car represents an innovative fusion of cutting-edge electric vehicle technology and advanced artificial intelligence.
At the heart of this concept car lies an EV-dedicated platform. This platform shares its DNA with the one debuted at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show under the Honda Urban EV Concept. The Sports EV Concept is equipped with an electric powertrain that excels in performance, offering smooth acceleration and the near-silent operation unique to EVs.
Honda’s emphasis on creating a joy-filled driving experience with unparalleled responsiveness and power is at the core of this design. But what truly elevates this concept is the integration of AI technology.

Honda collaborated with a SoftBank Group subsidiary to create the Honda Automated Network Assistant (ANA), an advanced AI system that complements the vehicle’s capabilities. This AI system reads the driver’s facial expressions, vocal tones, and other communication cues to assess their emotional state or stress level. It uses this information to offer safety recommendations and suggest appropriate actions.
Dubbed the “Emotion Engine”, this AI also aims to make driving more intuitive and enjoyable by creating a harmonious interaction between the driver and the car. Imagine feeling like the vehicle is anticipating your needs as if it were an extension of your body—this is the vision behind this blend of AI and EV technologies.
The design of the Sports EV Concept doesn’t merely stand out—it leaves a lasting impression. With its low and wide stance, long nose, and compact profile, this sports car captures attention with its striking proportions. The balance between modern elegance and retro charm adds to its universal appeal.
- The round headlights on the front give off a vintage vibe, reminiscent of classic sports cars.
- The rectangular taillights at the rear enhance its unique look with a touch of nostalgia.
The design perfectly marries familiarity and style, leading many enthusiasts to urge Honda to release the car without changing its current aesthetics.
Despite its high praise at its 2017 unveiling, the Honda Sports EV Concept has yet to proceed to production. Additionally, the discontinuation of Honda’s lightweight sports model, the S660, in 2022 has left a gap in the brand’s portfolio for compact two-door coupes.
However, as the demand for lightweight sports cars grows, there’s hope that Honda might revisit this concept and bring its visionary design and technology to market. By doing so, the company could redefine electric sports cars and set a new benchmark for blending performance with emotion.
