The teaser, posted on Instagram, doesn’t show much. But it gives us a glimpse of what’s coming. The new Charger Pursuit sports a classic black and white police paint job. It also has a light bar on the roof, a must-have for any police cruiser.

Dodge hasn’t said much about the car yet. They’re calling it a concept for now. But it’s likely we’ll see it on the streets soon. The new Charger Pursuit will probably be based on the four-door version of the regular Charger. This makes sense for a police car. After all, officers need space for suspects in the back seat.

While we can’t see all the details, the new Pursuit will likely have some special police gear. The current Charger Pursuit has heavy-duty brakes and steel wheels. It also has special front seats for officers and a vinyl rear bench for easy cleaning.

Under the hood, the new Charger Pursuit might come in two flavors. There could be an electric version and one with a gas engine.

The electric Charger, called the Daytona, packs a punch. The R/T trim has 456 horsepower. Step up to the Scat Pack, and you get a whopping 590 horsepower. Dodge even offers upgrade packages to add more power.

But many police departments might prefer the gas version. This model uses a 3.0-liter Hurricane straight-six engine. It’s twin-turbocharged and comes in two power levels: 420 or 550 horsepower. The engine pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

The gas version, nicknamed the Sixpack, will likely be the top choice for most police departments. It offers a mix of power and familiarity that many officers prefer.

Electric police cars are becoming more common, though. They’re quick and quiet, which can be useful for police work. Some departments, like the New York Police Department, are already using electric vehicles. They added the Ford Mustang Mach-E to their fleet in 2022.

Electric cars can help officers in several ways. They can silently approach suspects or quickly catch up to fleeing vehicles. The smooth, quiet ride might even help reduce stress for officers on long shifts.

Dodge hasn’t said when they’ll fully reveal the new Charger Pursuit. But car experts think it might happen at the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference. This event runs from October 19-22 in Boston.

The current Dodge Charger is a favorite among police departments across the country. Dodge clearly wants to keep this trend going with the new model.

For regular car buyers, the 2024 Charger is currently only available as a two-door coupe with electric power. But Dodge plans to release a four-door sedan version next year. This sedan will offer both electric and gas engine options.

The police version will likely be based on this upcoming sedan model. It makes sense for a police car to have four doors for easier access to the back seat.

Dodge is being smart by offering both electric and gas versions of the Charger. This lets them appeal to police departments with different needs and preferences. Some might want the cutting-edge tech of an electric car, while others might prefer the reliability and familiarity of a gas engine.

Car enthusiasts and police departments alike will be eagerly waiting for more details about the new Charger Pursuit. Will it live up to the reputation of the current model? Only time will tell.

One thing’s for sure: speeders will need to keep an eye out for a new shape in their rearview mirrors. The next generation of police cruisers is on its way, and it looks like Dodge is leading the charge.
