Skoda is set to launch its new electric SUV, the Elroq, on October 1. This compact EV will sit below the Enyaq in Skoda’s lineup and take on rivals like the Ford Explorer and Peugeot E-3008.
The Elroq marks a new era for Skoda. It’s the first to show off the brand’s “Modern Solid” design language. The front sports a “Tech-Deck Face” with LED Matrix headlights and new bonnet lettering. Its sleek shape helps it achieve a drag coefficient of just 0.26.
Inside, Skoda focuses on sustainability. The Elroq uses recycled materials extensively. Its “Loft Design” interior features Recytitan, a fabric made from 78% recycled PET bottles and clothing. Another option, “Lodge Design,” uses Technofil, made from recovered nylon waste like fishing nets.
Tech-savvy buyers will appreciate the 13-inch central display, 5-inch Digital Cockpit, and head-up display with augmented reality. The Elroq doesn’t skimp on space either, offering a 470-liter boot expandable to 1,580 liters.
Skoda will offer the Elroq in three main versions:
- Elroq 50: 170 PS, 55 kWh battery, rear-wheel drive
- Elroq 60: 204 PS, 63 kWh battery, rear-wheel drive
- Elroq 85: 286 PS, 82 kWh battery, rear-wheel drive
A top-spec Elroq 85X will also be available, featuring twin motors, all-wheel drive, and 296 PS.
Range is a strong point for the Elroq. Skoda claims up to 350 miles on a single charge for the top models. This matches the larger Enyaq and beats the Hyundai Kona Electric by 30 miles.
Charging won’t be a problem either. The Elroq can handle up to 175 kW DC fast charging, allowing a 10-80% charge in under 28 minutes.
Safety features abound in the Elroq. It packs up to nine airbags and a host of driver assists. The SUV can even park itself remotely using your smartphone, up to 50 meters away.
Skoda sees the Elroq as a crucial step in its electric journey. CEO Klaus Zellmer called it “a milestone in our BEV portfolio” and the first of six new fully electric models planned.
While Skoda hasn’t confirmed pricing, industry insiders expect the Elroq to start around £35,000. This would position it competitively against its rivals.
The Elroq will make its full debut on October 1, with orders opening in 2025. It joins a crowded but growing electric SUV market. Skoda hopes its blend of range, technology, and value will help it stand out from the pack.
